The second golden
The first camp was opened in the capital by King Rama the Second during the early 19th century to train muay fighters. In addition to cash prizes upon winning the competitions, they also started awarding them with military ranks. It was an honourable status and, if one wanted it to, allowed them to find a position in the civil service. While pahuyut simultaneously split into two parts: one fighting with weapons called krabi krabong (sword stick) and the other with their bare hands, which is called muay.
In 1908, King Rama the Sixth, on his son's funeral, held a contest. From the results, he picked three best fighters from different parts of the country: Korat, Lopbuti, and Chaya. He gave these masters officer ranks and asked them to set up training camps in those areas like the ones in the capital. The fighters who trained there did not have to do military service or required community service.
In 1911, the new governor included muay in the civil servant's physical training program at San Kulab college, where two years later they also initiated a course in English boxing and Muay Thai, Thai boxing were officially in use from 1913.
Muay Thai boxers continued to fight with their hands wrapped in ropes in keeping with the traditions and rules of the tiger king. It wasn't until 1928 - after a fighter died during a Bangkok competition, that a rule was instituted that banned fights without boxing gloves. Then it had to wear metal protective shells on the groin. It wasn't allowed to attack a fallen opponent, to bite, hit in the groin, hit the throat, or poke fingers in the eyes.
In 1945, the famous Rajadamnern Stadium was finally completed and inaugurated. This was followed by the also famous Lumpini Stadium in 1956. In 1979, a total of 56 public and local stadiums were built by Thailand throughout its kingdom.
The sudden development of Muay Thai into a sport crated division among the masters, since those who were more traditional did not want to wear gloves, to give up risky techniques, and change effectiveness with spectacular show and sports rules. Due to that, the term came into being: "muay boran" or old Thai boxing. In that way, the united so far muay boran split onto two traditional fighting and modern sport style.
