What is Muay?

"Muay" (duel), the desigination of a fight of without weapons, dates back to the beginning of the 11th century. At that time, the country of Thailand was called Siam and it was divided into several principalities.

The fight between people took place on a square earthen platform, and representatives of the fighters sat in the corners and collected money. When the bets were placed, They raised their hand and the duel began. The result of the fight was always clear, so there was no need for a judge. But for today, the rules are a little different. Yes, bets are still being placed, but already online. There are also referees at official matches. There are still no illegal ones.

Who started to arrange fights and where?

In the capital of the Outs, where the prince was the Great Panza, he began to organize fist fights on holidays. Only the Pahuyt fighters participated. Bets were placed on the result of the battle, which allowed not only the participants, but also the audience to earn money from the battles. There were no rules or time limits. In short - fights without rules (at the moment there are fights without rules all over the world). The fight goes on until one of the fighters surrenders: knockout, fracture or death. The fights took place with music, it was performed on the same instruments as now: flute, dulcimer, Thai single and Indian double drum.

Such entertainment gradually became a part of Thai culture. The popularisation of duels quickly spread not only in cities, but also in villages, and even in Buddhist temples. In sequence, monks were often military men who left the service either because of disability or old age. They taught young children how to smell at will. Those then participated in battles in honour of some regular religious holiday, which brought profit to the monks.
